The past couple of years have been challenging for me, to say the least At this point in my life, I was expecting to be an empty nester, free to do what I wanted with both girls off at college and living their lives. I had big plans for my life. My husband and I could travel and I could run marathons in different states. We could relax in our pool, go out whenever we wanted, and not have a care in the world (okay, maybe some cares since we still have bills to pay).
But that’s not how things worked out for us.
Life handed us a huge serving of stress. I won’t go into a lot of detail about it since that’s not what this post is about but the stress took a huge toll on me and my family. It was about that time that I started having stress-related symptoms – chronic fatigue, weight gain, muscle pain, insomnia and stomach pain. And it affected my ability to run well too. Because running is a huge stress reliever for me, that was pretty devastating.
I went to doctor after doctor to try to find the source of my issues but no one could ever make a conclusive diagnosis. After two years with no answers and no relief even after most of the stress was gone, I was left physically, mentally, and financially drained. And I was resigned to the fact that this was my new normal and I would have to give up my big dream.
My big dream. I wanted to qualify to run the Boston Marathon.
This is where the story changes. I decided I wasn’t ready to give up on my dream and I didn’t want to accept that this was my future. I ended up at a different doctor for a regular checkup. And we discovered that my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. After doing my own research, I realized that I had 10 out of 10 of the symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency. And the good news is that it is easily treatable.
My dream is still alive. And my hope has been renewed.
I dared to dream big and bold. While I am a long way from where I need to be, I have faith that I can get there. My training plan is in place, my support system, and everything I need to make my dream a reality.
Besides my family, I depend on a strict training plan and healthy diet to help me succeed. Part of the sacrifice required is getting up early to get my workouts done. I’d like to say I can do it on my own but that’s not always my reality. My bold coffee helps me reach my bold dreams.
Dunkin’ Dark® coffee is my preferred coffee because it fits with my healthy lifestyle. The distinctly bold, yet smooth coffee is never bitter. It inspires me to get up each day and live my dream. And since they are available in K-Cup® Pods (10-ct or 16-ct) and 11-oz. and 18.4-oz bags of ground coffee, it’s an easy, cost effective way for me to enjoy at home. One of the things that I love about Dunkin’ Donuts is that they invest in the education and training of coffee growers. They work with the Rainforest Alliance to conserve natural resources and protect wildlife and the environment. By choosing this 30% Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffee, you directly supporting the Rainforest Alliance by protecting our earth and supporting sustainability.
