I’ve been a little lax in reporting my training on the blog but I’m going to get back on track now. I have still been working out, just not as much or as hard as usual for the past couple of weeks. Life just got in the way and I’ve had a lot of negative things surrounding me that have really affected every aspect of my life. I’m not usually one to give in to the negativity or let it affect me much but this has been tough stuff to deal with. I know people say to focus on your goals, not let the bad stuff get to you, or whatever else but it’s just not always that easy. And I’ve been struggling with that lately. But now I am trying to stay focused, get back on track, and move forward. That’s definitely easier said than done, but I’m giving it everything I’ve got.
I didn’t have an actual workout plan this week since I haven’t officially committed to any races but I am trying to maintain a solid base since I know there will be marathons and possibly an ultra in my future.
Here’s how the week worked out:
Sunday: Rest day
Monday: I love having a holiday on Monday so I can sleep late and still get a longish run in. Since it was raining by the time I got around to running, it was a treadmill run for me. I had a great 8.5 mile run and could have kept going.
Tuesday: I woke up with really bad tummy troubles so I wasn’t up to a good workout. I worked part of the day and slept all afternoon. I ended up walking 1.5 miles with my husband and enjoyed the quality time to talk. So basically this was a rest day for me.
Wednesday: I was still feeling puny this morning so slept most of the day. I managed a late evening treadmill run and knocked out 7 miles and a little strength training.
Thursday: By today, I was so tired of feeling bad and being in such a low place that I changed my mindset and decided I was going to have a happy and productive day today and would start with a run. I had a decent 4 mile run and was ready to face the day. It didn’t end up being such a great day but I tried to keep a positive attitude. I won’t lie – that was a huge challenge!
Friday: Although I didn’t have a plan for the week, I planned to run 16 miles on Saturday so needed to keep it short and easy today so I knocked out an easy 3 in my neighborhood before the sun came up.
Saturday: I actually managed to get 8.5 hours of sleep last night and woke up feeling really refreshed and ready to run. I checked the weather so I’d know what to expect (although it’s almost summer in Texas so you can assume it’s hot)….72 degrees and 100% humidity. Oh boy. It was a tough run under those conditions and felt harder than it should have at that pace but we managed a fantastic 16 miles! It was nice to sweat everything out, including the negative feelings from the week!
Over the week, I ended up with a total of 40 miles so I’m super pleased with that. For next week, my goal will be to match that and add more strength and cross training to the schedule. But for this week, I’m happy with what I did and ready to move on!
How was your week? What are your goals for the upcoming week?
