As most of you know, I eat a real food diet.  Over the past couple of years, I have eliminated all processed foods from my diet.  Not only do I want to be healthier and feel better, I am also looking to improve my running performance.   It’s not hard to eat real food meals at home – fruits and veggies are in abundant supply and quick and easy to prepare.  The problem I was having was finding healthy portable snacks.  I like to snack on hard-boiled eggs, almonds, bananas, or apples usually but those aren’t always readily available.  I’ve even gone as far as making my own energy bars like these coconut energy bars but that’s not always practical either. The only bars I have been able to find that contain completely real food ingredients have been Larabars.  I do really like Larabars but they don’t seem to hold me over for very long because they are so small.   But I have found the perfect solution in Nude Food energy bars!

Nude Food was kind enough to send me some of their products to review and I can say whole-heartedly that I love these bars!  And the great news is that they are offering a prize pack to a lucky reader!  This is an amazing prize that you won’t want to miss out on!

So what is Nude Food and who are these people?

from their website:

Superfood to go – that’s what NudeFood is all about. Short for “Nutrient-Dense Food,” these raw energy bars are the perfect companion to your bike ride, hike, mountain climb, gym session, or just to snack through the day healthfully. We’ve focused in on the balanced nutrition your body needs, packing in high-calorie raw ingredients, and shunning away the empty-calorie fillers you’ll find in other bars.

All of their offerings are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, nutrient-dense, raw, organic and kosher so they are perfect for those with special dietary needs or just want to eat real food.  I love eating raw foods since that’s as close to nature as possible so I particularly love that these bars are raw and packed with nutrients.  I eat very little dairy and have been experimenting with eliminating gluten from my diet so this was perfect for me!

I got to try the energy bars, cookies, and breakfast boost.   Some of the flavors sounded really great and some I wasn’t sure about but I tried them all and learned a valuable lesson about trying new things!   The first flavor I tried was peanut butter chocolate chunk.  As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with the peanut butter chocolate chunk combination and this did not disappoint!  I didn’t really taste a lot of peanut butter in it but the chocolate chunks made it amazing.   My husband tried the cherry vanilla macadamia bar next.  He said it was good but he would prefer to taste more macadamia but would definitely eat them again.   The next flavor I tried was the walnut brownie mint bar.  This one was good too but I thought the mint was a little overpowering for my taste.  But if you enjoy mint, this one is definitely for you!  Next was the mocha coconut cream bar.  I’m not a huge fan of mocha flavored food so I’ll say I just thought this one was okay.  But again, if you like mocha, you’ll probably really love this flavor.  The last two flavors left were pineapple pomegranate walnut and chocolate hanuman chai.  Honestly, I saved these for last because they didn’t sound particularly appealing to me.  Much to my surprise, these were both my favorites!  I’ll be ordering more of both of these flavors to have on hand for snacks and to take on trail runs for mid-run fueling.

The cookies were all great too.  The cookies are available in chocolate peanut butter, cherry berry, and cranberry almond.  I really tried to pick my favorite flavor but I just couldn’t do it.  They were all delicious and made a great snack!  They are small enough to just throw in your purse or bag and always have on hand.  These cookies are a great way to get nutrient-packed calories to keep you going!

The third product they sent me to try was the breakfast boost powder.  This is available in Spirulina, Coconut Pecan Probiotic, and Antioxidant Berry.  I’m a huge fan of smoothies and breakfast shakes.  I love that they are so easy to make and the possibilities are endless to make a delicious and healthy meal to go.  Even though I usually add different ingredients to my smoothies, I decided to try these with just ice and almond milk to get a true taste of it.  I wasn’t sure about this with my first sip because it tasted a little grainier than I am used to.  The first ingredient is ground almonds so that’s what the graininess I was tasting.  But after a couple more sips, I decided that I really did enjoy the texture of it.  Surprisingly, the smoothie held me over for several hours too so I was very pleased with that.  Not only is this powder good for smoothies, you can use it to top oatmeal, ice cream, in granola, or whatever else you’d like to add some nutrition to!
