Since I started running a few years ago, I have been looking for the right fueling strategy that will keep me going throughout a race. I’ve tried almost everything – from gels to jello-like shots to jelly beans. I just haven’t been able to find the right combination that works for me. When VegaSport offered me the opportunity to review their Preworkout Energizer, I was eager to give it a shot.
I’ve only used type of preworkout energizer in the past and absolutely hated it. It tasted nasty, was super grainy and I just couldn’t get it down. Based on that, I was a little uncertain about what to expect from VegaSport. I’ve seen plenty of people at the gym drinking energy drinks like Monster or 5 hour energy shots but I’ve just never been one to do that after reading about side effects like racing heart beat or the jitters. I do like my coffee before a morning run or workout but I drink that every day anyway so I would consider that fueling my life.
The first time I tried VegaSport Preworkout Energizer was on a Saturday long run. Most of my runs for the past month or so have been pretty sluggish so I have been working on getting back to solid running again. I hadn’t even been able to run double digit mileage in weeks. For this run, my goal was to run 10 miles. My training partner was planning to run 14 so we worked it out so that I could turn back if I didn’t feel like I could run 14. Considering I hadn’t run anywhere close to that in a while, I really didn’t think I’d be able to. But we got to the decision making point where we would split up but I didn’t even think twice and kept going. I was able to finish the entire 14 mile run and felt great!
The next day, I tried VegaSport before my gym workout. I love going to Body Pump and Zumba Step on Sunday mornings. Lifting weights makes me feel strong and Zumba Step is just fun (and really gets me out of my comfort zone since I am not a dancer and have nothing even close to rhythm). I’ve been doing Body Pump for several years. Some workouts are better than others but they all feel pretty similar. Today actually felt great! I had way more energy and was really able to get a better workout done. This is when I really started to take notice of VegaSport. I was really surprised to have such a great workout when I didn’t actually feel it working! There was no racing heart beat, no adrenaline pumping, no odd energy spikes or feeling wired. I just had a great workout! Now I’m starting to understand their #fuelyourbetter slogan!
The true test for me was an after work Insanity class at the gym. If you haven’t tried Insanity before, let’s just say the name is very appropriate. It’s one of the toughest workouts I’ve done. The entire workout is high intensity intervals and it’s tough! It’s hard to give 100% effort after a long day at work. I drank my VegaSport Preworkout Energizer on the way to the gym and was ready to face it! I can’t say it was easy (because it was super hard) but I did not die and that’s what I consider a successful workout! Preworkout Energizer is a definite necessity before Insanity for me!
I have to say that I am now a HUGE fan of VegaSport Preworkout Energizer. I wasn’t overly crazy about the Acai Berry flavor but it was definitely not hard to swallow like many other energizers. The subtle energy boost and increased focus is amazing! Even drinking it in the evening after work didn’t keep me up that night. And I love that it’s plant based!
Do you use a preworkout energizer? What do you like or dislike about it? Have you ever tried VegaSport? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
