Easy Whole Wheat Waffles

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 eggs, beaten (or egg substitute for a vegan option)
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 4 tablespoons coconut oil, melted (if solid)

Directions:

  1. Preheat Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to its manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, sift together the white whole wheat flour, salt, and baking powder. This helps to evenly distribute the dry ingredients and remove any lumps.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs (or egg substitute) until well mixed. Add the almond milk and melted coconut oil to the beaten eggs. Mix until all the wet ingredients are well combined.
  4. Create Batter: Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter, but be careful not to overmix. Overmixing can lead to tough waffles.
  5. Cook Waffles: Lightly grease the waffle iron with a small amount of oil or non-stick cooking spray if necessary. Pour an appropriate amount of batter onto the preheated waffle iron. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, until the waffles are golden brown and crisp.
  6. Serve: Carefully remove the cooked waffles from the iron and place them on a serving plate. Serve the waffles warm and top with your favorite waffle toppings such as maple syrup, fresh fruits, yogurt, or nuts.
